West Ham United want to sign Newcastle United star Callum Wilson in £18m transfer

West Ham United want to strike a last-gasp deal for Newcastle striker Callum Wilson before the January transfer window closes, according to HITC.

Writing on their website (25 January), the news outlet report that the England international has been offered to Chelsea and Manchester United with the Magpies struggling with FFP restrictions.

And Wilson has now emerged as someone who could be sold in order to raise funds, with the Hammers keen to bolster their forward options for the second half of the season.

“West Ham are interested in striking a January deal for Newcastle’s £18 million-rated striker Callum Wilson as the England international is offered to Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United,” they wrote.

Quality

Wilson has been a fantastic striker in the Premier League over the years with both Bournemouth and Newcastle and he has a fine record in front of goal.

The biggest issue that Wilson has had is with his fitness and availability, with the 31-year-old suffering with muscle injuries and knocks throughout his career.

The striker is currently out nursing an injury but when he is fit he is a reliable source of goals and would suit the style of play that West Ham currently employ, although an £18m fee for someone who isn’t always available and is on the wrong side of 30 doesn’t represent great value.

He does have a fantastic relationship with Michail Antonio though so would fit in well with the squad, and this would be a sensible deal to pursue if they can negotiate the fee down a bit and improve the attacking options for the second half of the campaign.
