West Ham United want to sign Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Wolves’ Nelson Semedo to replace Vladimir Coufal

West Ham want to sign Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Wolves’ Nelson Semedo in January amid uncertainty over the future of Vladimir Coufal, according to FootballTransfers.

Writing on their website (16 November), the news outlet report that the Hammers are keen on a right-back in January with Coufal’s current contract at the club due to expire in the summer.

And Wan-Bissaka has been targeted as an ideal signing despite interest from his former club Crystal Palace, while Portugal international Semedo is viewed as a potential alternative too.

West Ham

“West Ham are looking at Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a possible target amid Vladimir Coufal’s uncertain future at the club, FootballTransfers can reveal,” they wrote.

“We are told that a January move for Wan-Bissaka could be on the cards despite interest from his former club, Crystal Palace.

“It is thought that a move to West Ham is a more enticing prospect for Wan Bissaka than a return to the Eagles, where he spent three seasons.

“West Ham are also actively pursuing Wolves’ Nelson Semedo as a potential replacement for Coufal.”

Strange

Coufal signed a new contract not too long ago, and that deal has a clause in it which allows us to trigger an extra year which would take him to 2025.

So any suggestion that there is panic over the right-back situation seems odd, and even more so when you look at our squad.

Currently we have Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer as right-back options as well as Coufal and while their futures aren’t 100% locked for the long-term, they’re more than secure enough to go through until the summer.

If the club are having second thoughts on Coufal’s long-term future then that would be strange considering he has been the first-choice right-back all season and been performing well too.

This seems like agent work more than anything else, but West Ham bolstering the squad in January won’t be frowned upon at all and Wan-Bissaka or Semedo would be terrific options.
