West Ham United want to sign Lovro Majer as Lucas Paqueta replacement amid Manchester City bid
West Ham want to sign Croatia international Lovro Majer as a potential replacement for Lucas Paqueta as he closes in on a move to Manchester City, report Daily Mail.
Writing in their Transfer Cofidential newsletter (14 August), the newspaper report that Rennes attacking midfielder Majer has emerged as a target for David Moyes this month.
Ajax ace Mohammed Kudus is the priority target to replace Paqueta should he join Man City, but the club are drawing up a shortlist of several options just in case.

“West Ham have joined the clubs asking about 23-year-old Ajax forward Mohammed Kudus as they consider options to replace Lucas Paqueta,” they wrote.
“Lovro Majer is another name mentioned as Manchester City prepare an improved bid for Paqueta who is eager to make the move as acknowledged by manager David Moyes.
“Rennes midfielder Majer, a Croatia International, has an offer from Wolfsburg also. Moyes would prefer Premier League experience but a number of options are being discussed.”
Interesting
It’s sensible from West Ham and something we’ve seen regularly from the club in recent transfer windows, including this one.
The midfield was an area that we were desperate to strengthen after losing Declan Rice, and now the arrivals of James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez suggest that a pursuit for Dennis Zakaria and Scott McTominay have come to an end.

But with Paqueta’s exit seemingly becoming inevitable at this stage, more targets will come as West Ham start to look towards deals that can be done to replace him.
Kudus is the main target and without doubt someone with pedigree, name status and quality to come in and do a job immediately, while Majer is someone who would take a bit more time to settle in and fans won’t know much about.
But they have a similar skillset and Majer is likely to cost less, so it could be a shrewd bit of business to sign him if a move for Kudus proves too difficult to get over the line.
