West Ham United want to sign Ibrahim Maza as contract update emerges from Hertha Berlin
West Ham are one of the Premier League teams interested in signing Hertha Berlin talent Ibrahim Maza, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via his personal X account [18 November] that Southampton and Wolves are regularly scouting one of the 2.Bundesliga’s “rising stars”, with Brentford, Fulham, Leicester City and Newcastle United also interested.
It is understood that there is currently no release clause in the player’s contract which runs until 2027, and could leave Hertha Berlin if they fail to win promotion back to the Bundesliga this season.
He is valued between £8.3million and £16.7million.
West Ham United target promising youngster in Ibrahim Maza
The 18-year-old has already notched three goals and one assist in the 2.Bundesliga this term, having started all 12 of Hertha’s league matches so far.
Despite coming through the German youth systems on the international stage, the midfielder has changed allegiances to Algeria and has already won his first cap for the senior national team.
He has 29 appearances in total for Hertha’s first team, having first earned his debut in March 2023 and has not looked back since, seeing him become an important figure for the German side.
He could be the perfect new signing to add some excitement to Julen Lopetegui’s squad, with Lucas Paqueta looking a shell of his former self, and Edson Alvarez and Guido Rodriguez not impressing.
If the Hammers were only to strike if Hertha missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga, it is looking pretty likely that a deal could happen, given that they are currently 11th in the league after 12 games.
The club are very much used to playing in the top tier of German football, so if Hertha were to fail in their target of achieving promotion, a move to the London Stadium could be a rather intriguing one for the youngster.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a 38G/A Serie A forward whose price tag could rise above £50million.
