West Ham United want to sign Flamengo striker Pedro to replace Gianluca Scamacca

West Ham United want to sign Flamengo striker Pedro to replace Gianluca Scamacca after his move to Atalanta, according to AS.

Writing on their official website (7 August), the Brazil international is reportedly a target for clubs in Portugal, Spain, Italy and England, with th Hammers interested in signing the 26-year-old.

But Flamengo are not willing to let him go for a bargain price, and it is currently Benfica who lead the race for his signature after they sold Goncalo Ramos to Paris Saint-Germain.

“However, the operation itself looks complicated, the Flamengo board of directors will not sell the best player on their squad at a bargain price,” they wrote.

“Negotiations are expected to continue this week, although the player has also received interest from various clubs on the Old Continent, especially Spain, Italy and England (Nottingham Forest and West Ham).

“From Saudi Arabia they would have also tried to convince the striker, receiving a ‘no’ as an answer , waiting to be able to compete again at the highest level next season.”

Scamacca is gone and Antonio reportedly doesn’t want to be here, leaving David Moyes and West Ham with just Danny Ings and Devin Mubama as striker options ahead of the opening game of the season this weekend.

There is money to spend after the sales of Declan Rice and Scamacca and there is a clear hole in the squad that needs to be filled in attack.

Pedro’s only spell in Europe came at Fiorentina where he made just four Serie A appearances and failed to score a goal before returning to Brazil, and while that was a few years ago now that is something that Moyes is likely to pay attention to.

But he performed well for Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar last year and his goal record in Brazil is excellent so if that can be translated to the Premier League then it would be a fantastic bit of business.

He’s likely to be one of several options and the club will need to act quickly because of all the competition, but this is an interesting deal to keep an eye on.
