West Ham United want to sign Christian Pulisic as AC Milan price tag update emerges

West Ham are interested in bringing AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic back to the Premier League in January, according to CalcioMercato.

The Italian source reported [18 November] that the 26-year-old, who was sold by Chelsea for £20million in July 2023 [BBC Sport], is also attracting attention from Liverpool and Manchester United.

It is understood that his transfer value has returned to around £50million (€60million) and this price tag is expected to rise ahead of the January transfer window, though his £3.3million yearly salary is said to be affordable.

West Ham United to bring Christian Pulisic back to the Premier League?

The American international has found a new lease of life since joining AC Milan in the Serie A, boasting 22 goals and 16 assists in 65 appearances, but it is unlikely to solve Julen Lopetegui’s current issues.

Having struggled to implement his playing style since taking over David Moyes’ post during the summer, other than far too many goals being conceded, the Spaniard’s main issue looks to be the centre-forward spot.

Michail Antonio and Danny Ings have failed to make the position their own, and with Niclas Fullkrug’s timeline for his return from injury completely unknown, the Hammers need another striker.

Obviously, even with five goals in 11 league appearances this term, Pulisic is not a striker and is far more comfortable on the right flank. With Jarrod Bowen as captain, he is unlikely to be the solution.

However, he would add a lot of firepower to the final third and provide Lopetegui with some much-needed reinforcement in attack, but it is certainly not a position that should be addressed first.

£50million is also a lot of money to splash on a winger who struggled to make it in the Premier League, having only scored 26 goals in a total of 145 appearances for Chelsea.

It would be a big risk for Tim Steidten, given the pressure that the technical director is already under, but he needs to do something to solve the striker issues at the London Stadium.
