West Ham United want to sign Ben Chilwell as Chelsea get ready to sanction January loan deal
West Ham want to sign Ben Chilwell with Chelsea ready to sanction an 18-month loan for the wantaway left back in January, according to Graeme Bailey.
The journalist reported via TBR on 18 October that the Blues are willing to consider a “long-term” loan for the ex-England international in the winter window.
The 27-year-old is desperate to move on from Stamford Bridge after Enzo Maresca did not see a future for him in his squad.
Despite his £200,000 a week wages for Chelsea [The Sun], the Hammers are said to be among his admirers alongside the likes of Manchester United, Fulham and Brentford.
West Ham interested in Ben Chilwell from Chelsea
Julen Lopetegui has already made a wealth of signings since moving to the Irons with some yet to truly have a first-team impact.
The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Crysencio Summerville have featured very sparingly since completing a move despite a difficult start to the campaign for the Spaniard.
With that being said, looking ahead to January with the desire to make even more signings does feel like a risk for what is becoming a more settled squad.
From the outside, the signing of a left back wouldn’t exactly make sense at the London Stadium given the options already available.
Emerson Palmeri and Aaron Cresswell are already positive options so adding a player on £200k-a-week to the mix would be a strange use of potentially limited transfer funds.

There is no doubt that Chilwell has qualities and is just in need of regular first-team football to show the ability he possesses.
The former Leicester City man could prove to be a useful addition at the London Stadium but for the wages being mooted, it seems too much compared to the need for another left back in the squad.
