West Ham United want Tammy Abraham already as 2024 transfer news drops

West Ham United have shown interest in signing Tammy Abraham with the forward keen to return to the Premier League in 2024, according to Caught Offside.

The online source reported on Wednesday (6 September) that the Irons were joined by Aston Villa in registering an interest in the former Chelsea striker, who could be sold by the Italian giants to fund a permanent move for Romelu Lukaku next summer.

So far no concrete talks or negotiations have been held over a potential future transfer but the Hammers are understood to rate the 25-year-old forward highly and they do need to add to their forward options when the transfer market reopens.

West Ham

David Moyes was eager to add a striker to his ranks throughout the summer transfer window, but West Ham were unable to get any deal over the line, despite also making an incredibly late move for Feyenoord forward Santiago Giminez [Toby Cudworth, 1 September].

Big move

Abraham’s time in Roma for the most part has been a success, winning the Europa Conference League in his first season and reaching the Europa League final in his last campaign, but his goal-scoring record did decrease somewhat during his second season.

The Premier League has always produced mixed results for the forward, who always carried a consistent threat while never really being able to hold onto the first-choice forward slot during his time at Stamford Bridge. But during his time with the Blues, he managed to score 21 goals in 58 Premier League games.

Under Jose Mourinho in Rome, he has become a much more complete striker and would be an excellent addition to the ranks at the London Stadium, having a genuine eye for goal while also being able to hold the ball up when leading the line on his own.

West Ham

Whether or not the Hammers turn their interest into a genuine bid, or even if Abraham will be sold by Roma next summer remains to be seen. So much of this deal even being discussed depends on whether or not the 25-year-old can recover from the serious injury he picked up last year or even if Lukaku succeeds in Rome.

Hopefully, the Irons will have a chance of getting the England international next summer, should he depart Serie A.
