West Ham United valuation update shared in transfer pursuit of Crysencio Summerville
West Ham and Leeds United “remain apart” on their respective valuations of Crysencio Summerville, according to the Daily Mail.
The Mail reported on 22 July that the Irons have “firmed up” their interest in the Leeds winger, having submitted a proposal to the West Yorkshire side and the Dutchman’s representatives [Fabrizio Romano, 22 July].
However, with Leeds reportedly under no pressure to sell their star player [Graham Smyth, 22 July], the Hammers could be drawn into a lengthy bidding war in their pursuit of Summerville as Julen Lopetegui chases another winger.
Fellow London side Fulham have also recently expressed interest in signing the 22-year-old [Lyall Thomas, 22 July], and with Lopetegui chasing a number of other targets, Summerville’s future remains up in the air.
Crysencio Summerville transfer could be risky for West Ham
The Hammers have already made waves in this summer’s transfer window, splashing out over £65million to sign players with vastly different levels of Premier League experience.
While the arrival of Wolves captain Max Kilman for £40million could have a transformational impact on his side’s defence, Lopetegui has also gambled on untested options in the frontline.
Former Palmeiras winger Luis Guilherme, still only 19, cost the club £25m and could prove a shrewd acquisition, but with no Premier League history – and little at first-team level, his transfer presents a risk.
Summerville – – who won the Championship Player of the Year in 2023/24 – represents a similar leap of faith at just 22, but he at least does have 40 matches under his belt in the English top-flight before Leeds’ relegation, scoring four times in 2022/23.
With more proven players at the top level like Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson linked [TEAMtalk, 17 July], the Irons may be wary of spending well over £50m on two largely untested wingers, but few players in Europe scored and assisted at the same rate as Summerville last season.
