West Ham United twist as Manchester City make £88m bid for Lucas Paqueta

Manchester City have submitted a second bid for West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta worth £88m, according to Santi Aouna.

The journalist reported on his personal Twitter account on Thursday (10 August) that the Irons have rejected the Premier League Champions second bid for the midfielder believing that he is worth more than what has been offered so far.

However, the deal is far from over, with both clubs continuing negotiations with an expectation that a deal for the sale of Brazilian can be completed with an offer that will suit all parties completely.

Sharing the news to his Twitter followers, Aouna tweeted: “Manchester City have submitted a second verbal bid for Lucas Paqueta. It’s worth £88m. West Ham does not accept again and want more.

“Negotiations are progressing well. Both clubs are confident to close the deal.”

A big loss

West Ham’s incoming business may have left a fair bit to be desired so far this summer, but the strong front they have presented when selling assets has been nothing short of incredible to see, making sure they get the right fee for their players.

There is no doubt that nobody in East London would have liked to have seen both Paqueta and Declan Rice depart the London Stadium in the same transfer window, but to get a near combined £200m for their signatures represents excellent business.

Add to that the money earned through the sale of Gianluca Scamacca and the Irons should be laughing their way to the bank, as long as they have the plans in place to reinvest that money cleverly and quickly.

Deals seem to be getting closer for Harry Maguire and James Ward-Prowse, but a move must be made soon for some more attacking options, as without Scamacca or Paqueta both the attacking midfield and forward line at the disposal of David Moyes is beginning to look light.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are awaiting permission to start discussing personal terms with a Manchester United star
