West Ham United transfer update in chase of Kyle Walker-Peters and Aaron Wan-Bissaka

West Ham are still in talks with Southampton over the signing of Kyle Walker-Peters but the fee has proven impossible to agree on, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist told GiveMeSport on 20 July that the Irons are still on the right-back’s trail but also have alternative options to the 27-year-old.

Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is said to be the most “prominent” alongside Walker-Peters and the pursuit of the latter has not been given up after a deal concluded to sell Flynn Downes to the Saints.

Sheth said: “They’ve been chasing Kyle Walker-Peters for a while now. Talks, I’m told, are still open with Southampton, but a fee simply can’t be agreed, between what West Ham are prepared to pay and what Southampton want.”

“There are other targets too, but they seem to be the prominent names.”

Downes’ permanent move back to St. Mary’s proves that the two clubs can still reach a positive outcome, especially since the deal held when Ipswich Town attempted to hijack it at the last [Alex Crook, 16 July].

There likely will still be hope of a deal for Walker-Peters since the Hammers signed James Ward-Prowse a year ago after seeming to be some way off on valuations for the midfielder [Guardian].

The fact that Russell Martin’s side are back in the Premier League now changes the situation but while the full-back has just a year left on his contract the pressure is on them.

They clearly know that so have offered him a new one [Daily Echo, 20 July] but that is no guarantee as the Irons are well aware after losing Ben Johnson despite multiple attempts to keep him [The Athletic, 11 June].

Wan-Bissaka is also into the final year of his deal at Old Trafford and INEOS appear to have no plans to extend him [Sheth, 2 July] so securing a move seems equally viable, especially when he is said to want a return to London [Stretty News, 12 July].

But David Moyes was frustrated in his attempts to buy from his former club a year ago as Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay proved elusive.

The current stalemate while trying to sign a right-back is clearly a frustration and time is running out before the season starts so Julen Lopetegui surely wants it resolved as soon as possible.
