West Ham United transfer update emerges on Manchester United target James Overy
Manchester United have beaten West Ham, Everton and Leicester City to the services of young right-back James Overy, according to Manchester Evening News.
The news outlet reported on 17 June that the Red Devils have officially secured the 16-year-old’s services as he’s accepted a scholarship offer from them.
He decided to turn down a move to the London Stadium and aims to become a future first-team player at Manchester United.
West Ham must continue their youth recruitment drive
The Hammers must continue their youth recruitment drive to ensure a sustainable pipeline of talent for the first team.
Investing in young players not only helps in nurturing homegrown talents but also provides a cost-effective solution to squad building in the long run.
Young players can be developed and moulded to fit the club’s style of play, ensuring a seamless transition into the senior squad.
If these players develop into first-team regulars or attract interest from other clubs, West Ham could potentially sell them for substantial transfer fees.
This not only helps in balancing the books but also in reinvesting the funds back into the squad.

While losing out on Overy’s services to Manchester United will be disappointing, in the grand scheme of things, it’s just one player and there will be other talented players they could potentially look to sign.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to secure the free transfer of a player who’s set to leave a Premier League club this month.
