West Ham United joined by Tottenham in battle for Glentoran striker George Feeney

West Ham have been joined by London rivals Tottenham in the race to sign Glentoran striker George Feeney, according to BBC Sport.

The Hammers were first linked with the 15-year-old earlier this year [Belfast Telegraph], but they now appear to face fresh competition from Spurs.

BBC Sport reported on its website on Friday (24 November) that West Ham and Spurs are two of four Premier League clubs showing an interest.

Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace are the other two sides interested in signing Feeney, who has made six appearances for Glentoran.

Go for it

West Ham continue to be linked with Feeney by multiple sources, so there is clearly some sort of an interest in the Irish talent.

With Tottenham also now supposedly in the running for the youngster’s signature, the Hammers may have to move soon.

Feeney, the son of former Northern Ireland international Warren, has caught the eye despite his limited appearances at club level.

The teenage ace netted for Glentoran in last month’s cup win over Dollingstown – a goal he will hope is the first of many across his career.

United have seen a number of talented youngsters around the same age as Feeney depart the club this year, so this seems like a smart move to buck the trend.

As ever with players this young, it is difficult to gauge just how much potential they have, but West Ham clearly see something in him and should pursue the move before Tottenham get there first.

In other West Ham news, a journalist has slammed a “hypocritical” Hammers player after a development this week.
