West Ham United transfer news: Thilo Kehrer to arrive at AS Monaco ‘in coming hours’ with medical set for Wednesday

Thilo Kehrer is set to undergo his medical with AS Monaco ahead of a loan move for the rest of the season with West Ham agreeing to let him go, according to L’Equipe.

Writing on their website (3 January), the French news outlet report that the German international defender is set to arrive at the Ligue 1 club “in the coming hours” for a medical ahead of his transfer.

Fabrizio Romano reports Monaco will pay a £433,000 loan fee to sign the former PSG ace, while FootMercato report that there is an £8.6m option to buy in the deal.

Shame

Kehrer arrived last summer in a period of transition for the club and made some good strides towards making himself a regular.

His performances at centre-back weren’t the best, however when he played at full-back he was more impressive and made a case for himself to be first-choice.

But Vladimir Coufal has rediscovered his best form at right-back which has seen Kehrer relegated to the bench, while the signing of Dinos Mavropanos sent him further down the pecking order at centre-back too.

West Ham

In a way it’s respectable that he is looking to leave so soon after arriving as it shows he wants to play regularly and with Euro 2024 just around the corner he wants a chance to play for his national team in a major tournament in his home country.

But it’s a shame for West Ham that we’ll lose a quality option from the squad and now David Moyes and the board must work to ensure he is adequately replaced so we’re not left short.

In other West Ham news, Moyes stance emerges as Hammers want to sign star PL rivals “desperately” want to sell.
