West Ham United offered chance to sign Jonathan Clauss from Marseille in late January transfer development

West Ham have been offered the chance to sign Jonathan Clauss from Marseille, according to L’Equipe.

The French publication reported on Wednesday (31 January) that Marseille have called the defender’s commitment into question after he did not train the previous day.

The report, as shared by Get Football News [31 January], added that the Ligue 1 side are leaning on intermediaries to find a buyer for Clauss.

West Ham are one of those who have been approached, along with Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray.

Interesting

Clauss has been regularly linked with a switch to the Premier League, even more so since making his France debut in 2022.

The right-back has now earned 10 caps for Les Blues at senior level and has four years of experience as a Ligue 1 regular.

Described as an “incredible” player by former Marseille boss Igor Tudor in the past, Clauss would undoubtedly improve West Ham’s defence.

This is a position the Irons will no doubt be looking to upgrade, too, so moving for the Frenchman makes sense in more ways than one.

West Ham

However, given the transfer window closes on Thursday (1 February), this is not one the Irons will rush into.

David Moyes has decent options at right-back for now and this may instead be one to explore further down the line.

For now, the priority will be bringing in a new attacking player to offset the likely departure of Said Benrahma.

In other West Ham news, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a United player is now working on the “final points” of his London Stadium exit.
