Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham enter race for West Ham United target Santiago Gimenez

West Ham can be pleased with the four signings they made in the summer transfer window, each helping to make the Hammers a stronger side than they were last season.

A couple of reported targets appeared to get away from them, however, including Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez.

As reported by 90min [25 September], West Ham tried to sign the Mexico international before the window closed.

The same report suggests that Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are all now showing an interest in Gimenez, with all three sides sending scouts to watch the 22-year-old in action against Ajax at the weekend.

Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli are also namechecked as having a keen eye on the Mexican, who has 23 goals in 38 Eredivisie matches.

What is unclear is whether West Ham’s interest in the Cruz Azul academy product softened once they moved for Mohammed Kudus, who also starred in the Dutch top flight with Ajax.

Given the growing interest in Gimenez, it may well be that West Ham have missed the boat as far as snapping up the talented attacker goes should they still hold any sort of interest.

However, Kudus’ two goals in his first 130 minutes of action for United certainly suggests that they will not lose too much sleep over missing out on Gimenez should that prove the case.

It would have been nice to have landed another player who clearly knows how to find the back of the net, but this now seems like a target to move on from to avoid getting involved in what is shaping up to be a major scramble for his signature.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers’ next Premier League opponents have reportedly made a decision over the future of their manager.
