West Ham United transfer news: Fabrizio Romano shares new update on Said Benrahma to Lyon

West Ham are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Lyon over the sale of Said Benrahma, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer expert posted on his personal Twitter page that a deal should be finalised later on Wednesday (31 January).

It is claimed that the sides have agreed on an initial €5million loan fee plus €12m option to buy, totalling €17m (£14.5m) should it all go through.

All that is left is for Benrahma to complete the “final points” of the deal before official confirmation will arrive.

Movement

There has been lots of talk regarding incoming and outgoing activity at London Stadium over the past few weeks, without much actually happening beyond the Kalvin Phillips deal.

Jota and Ibrahim Osman are the two names to have been most strongly linked with a switch to East London, but a deal for either of those always depended on Benrahma’s future.

With the Algerian now close to departing, United could well ramp up talks to get a deal for Osman over the line before the window closes on Thursday (1 February).

Benrahma is a squad player at best now, and getting up to £14.5m for him is better than nothing. That money, you would like to think, will go straight back into strengthening David Moyes’ options.

If that proves the case and a new attacker is brought in, West Ham can be pleased with their overall business this month.

In other West Ham news, Alex Crook says the Irons are “working overtime” to get a deal over the line before the deadline.
