West Ham United transfer news as new bids set for Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay
West Ham United are set to submit new bids for Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay while also completing the signing of Edson Alvarez on Tuesday 08 August, according to Sky Sports‘ Florian Plettenberg.
Plettenberg reported on his personal Twitter account (8 August) that the Irons £34m move for the Mexican international from Ajax is “all done” and they are now set to continue their pursuit of the Manchester United duo.
David Moyes’ side had a £60m offer knocked back to secure the services of both Maguire and McTominay but don’t appear to be giving up negotiations for either player with the manager keen to have them at the London Stadium this summer.
Discussing the Irons’ position in the market, Plettenberg wrote: “Edson Alvarez will arrive in London today to pass his medical. Contract at least until 2028; £34m transfer fee – all done.
“Today, West Ham also wants to renew their offers for Maguire & McTominay. Moyes wants to get both players – next to Alvarez. Bosses are working on it.”
Up and running
It feels as though everyone at West Ham has finally clicked into gear and are starting to pull in the same direction, with those above David Moyes trying to bring the targets that he wants at the London Stadium through the door.
Alvarez represents a very sensible deal as a proven international with plenty of European experience despite still only being 25 years old and will likely be able to operate at the base of midfield in a not-too-dissimilar way to Declan Rice.

The pursuit of the Manchester United players however needs to either be definite or stopped, with the Hammers floating bids well below the Red Devils’ asking price, it is unlikely they will be willing to accept as they don’t desperately need to sell either player.
However, both know that they are unlikely to play a major role at Old Trafford this season and if they desire to play regular Premier League football, the Irons may be able to secure their services. The important thing is that Moyes feels backed in the market after what has been a frustrating few months for all involved at West Ham.
The back and forth between the Hammers and United may likely continue for a while yet as both clubs aim to find a deal that suits them before panic sets in towards the end of the window.
