West Ham United transfer for James Ward-Prowse to be hijacked as £40m Tottenham news emerges

West Ham United’s move for James Ward-Prowse is about to be hijacked by Tottenham, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper reported via their website on Saturday night (5 August) that Spurs could beat the Irons to the signing of Ward-Prowse, 28, after the East London side had a third bid rejected for him earlier this week [The Sun].

It is understood that Southampton want £40million for the England midfielder and Spurs are willing to get a lot closer to that fee with West Ham only offering in excess of £25million.

Hijacked, again

It’s not the first time this summer that West Ham have been blown out of the water to lose out on a signing.

On 1 August, the Daily Mail reported how Ajax hijacked the Hammers’ move to sign Carlos Borges from Manchester City.

It’s beyond belief that West Ham don’t see enough value in Ward-Prowse to offer anywhere near what the Saints want for their captain.

Not only is he a leader and one of the best set-piece takers in English football, he’s also a very talented midfielder that will go a long way towards filling the void left by Declan Rice.

And now, it seems the Hammers are willing to lose out on Ward-Prowse because they refuse to pay a bit extra – which they can afford.

David Moyes must be feeling pretty fed up.

Tim Steidten’s arrival at the London Stadium was not only pointless because Rob Newman was still at the club but because he’s caused a rift behind the scenes.

His targets are not aligned with Moyes’ and David Sullivan must surely see that the Scot has way more of a say due to what he’s done at the London Stadium in the past few years.

In other West Ham news, Paul Merson has spoken out about the Ward-Prowse saga.
