West Ham United transfer claim emerges on Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran
West Ham had no money left at the end of the window to pursue the services of Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran given the FFP and PSR situation, according to Hammers News.
The news outlet reported on 28 September that a senior contact close to the owners of the club claimed that signing Luis Guilherme and Niclas Fullkrug saw the coffers dry up at the London outfit.
This comes after Fabrizio Romano reported that the Irons offered £43million to Villa plus a percentage of any future sale but Villa rejected it.
“We had no money left at the end as we bought the Brazilian winger (Luis Guilherme) and German striker instead of Duran,” the senior contact close to the owners told Hammers News overnight.
“The new FFP/PSR rules are really tough.”
Julen Lopetegui must now bring the best out of Niclas Fullkrug at West Ham
Duran would have potentially offered the Hammers a more dynamic and long-term solution up front compared to Fullkrug due to his youth, pace and adaptability across the front line.
The Colombian’s potential for growth, combined with his already demonstrated ability to impact games off the bench for Villa, as seen against the Irons itself, could have provided a promising future asset with a high ceiling.
However, with the financial constraints brought by new FFP/PSR rules, West Ham’s decision to pursue Fullkrug, a more established striker, reflects a strategy focusing on immediate impact over potential.
The Germany international’s experience, especially in high-pressure environments like the Bundesliga and the international stage, brings a different quality to the squad—clinical finishing and hold-up play.
The onus for him to perform now lies on Julen Lopetegui who certainly would’ve greenlit the transfer over the summer.

Hopefully, he still has a few more years left at his best and he can offer the Irons with something they need in the final third.
In other West Ham news, David Sullivan’s stance has finally emerged as Julen Lopetegui faces the sack at the London Stadium.
