West Ham United to speed up Jean-Clair Todibo deal with Aston Villa lurking

West Ham United could speed up their pursuit of Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice after Euro 2024 finishes amid interest from Aston Villa, according to Foot Mercato.

The French outlet has reported (12 July) that the Hammers are up against Villa and an unknown English club, as well as teams abroad, to sign the 24-year-old this summer.

It has been suggested that the end of the European Championships and the beginning of pre-season training across Europe can “speed up” a deal.

A move is said to be “a necessity” for Nice, with the Frenchman wanting to begin “preparation” with a new club as soon as possible.

The transfer fee likely to be required to land Todibo is not disclosed, but it is said any team wanting to purchase him will have to make a “significant investment”.

West Ham face Aston Villa competition for Jean-Clair Todibo

It seems clear that Julen Lopetegui wants to further improve his defensive options before the season begins with a Premier League clash against the Villans.

This has already seen Max Kilman, who is likely to come in as the left-sided centre-back option for the Hammers.

Now the Spaniard has turned his attention to Todibo, who looks set to depart Nice this summer with interest from across Europe in his signature.

A deal including a potential swap deal for captain Kurt Zouma has been mooted, which could see him move to the London Stadium.

This transfer could be made more difficult by the interest from Unai Emery’s side given that they can offer Champions League football.

With the Hammers not involved in European competition this season, their pull has been somewhat lessened compared to recent years.

A move for Todibo would certainly be a positive piece of business, but one that may be tough to get over the line.

In other West Ham news, a move for Elye Wahi has been mooted.
