West Ham United to save £4.6m on Kurt Zouma as exit now close
West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma is closing in on a move to Dubai side Shabab Al-Ahli, according to Sean Whetstone.
The former 6 foot 2 editor reported via his West Ham Football account (8 August) that there wouldn’t be much, if any, money involved in the deal.
Zouma’s exit will, however, free up some wages on the club’s books that total up to around £4.6million, Whetsone said.
West Ham United selling Kurt Zouma makes sense
Last season, West Ham’s defence was one of the weakest in the league. The club had the fourth-worst record with just the three relegated teams having a worse tally by the end of last season.
This meant that reinforcement was evidently needed to bolster the Hammers’ defensive ranks and that’s exactly what Julen Lopetegui has done.
Max Kilman has been brought in from Wolves in order to help shore up the London-based club’s defence and the Hammers are also still on the lookout for another right-back.
It was reported yesterday (7 August) that before any further defensive additions could be made to Lopetegui’s squad, the sale of Zouma had to occur [Sean Whetstone].
In addition, it was also said that if Zouma were to leave the London Stadium, Nayef Aguerd could be the next defender out of the door.
This would spark a major defensive revamp for the club with many names being thrown around in regards to who they could bring in.
And shipping out Zouma would be a good start, especially in terms of the cash they can save on his wages.
In other West Ham news, one Hammers man has been singled out as ‘key’ to making the Niclas Fullkrug deal happen.
