West Ham United to pay seven-figure fee to Hull if Jarrod Bowen hits England milestone

West Ham will owe a £1million payment to Hull City when Jarrod Bowen makes his fifth England appearance, which now looks likely to happen in the coming international fixtures, according to Hull Live.

The winger has been called up by Gareth Southgate for the fixtures against Australia and Italy at Wembley, and having made four appearances already, looks likely to make the fifth in the coming weeks.

The Hammers signed Bowen from Hull for a fee of £18.4million [Transfermarkt] in January 2020, and has since gone on to write his name into West Ham legend by scoring the winner in the Europa Conference League final.

A small price to pay

If you had gone to the West Ham board last week and told them: “Jarrod Bowen will sign a seven-year contract, but you’ll have to pay £1million to Hull a week later”, they surely would have bitten your hand off for the opportunity.

Bowen’s extension at the London Stadium will see him remain at the club until he is 33 under his new terms, which have also reportedly made him the highest-paid player at the club, with his performances of late earning him the highest of praises.

The additional fee agreed with Hull when the Hammers signed him in 2020 would have appeared aspirational at the time, but is a sign of how much the forward has progressed during his time playing under David Moyes.

Bowen will be hoping to make his fifth appearance in the upcoming internationals having worked hard to be chosen in the squad ahead of the likes of Raheem Sterling, and he will be looking to continue his rich vein of goalscoring form in the white shirt.
