West Ham United to explore idea of Dean Henderson transfer, European football will help

West Ham United are set to explore the option of signing Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer, according to Football Transfers.

The Hammers currently have both Lukasz Fabianksi and Alphonse Areola at their disposal, but the former has just one year remaining on his contract at the London Stadium, while the Frenchman could potentially consider his future if not given first-team guarantees. [Claret and Hugh, 18 April]

Henderson, 26, spent the last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but saw his game time limited by injury and the arrival of former PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Football Transfers added: “It is thought that winning the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday will go a long way toward giving the club that extra pull to attract the players.”

Not needed

Although Henderson is a top-draw keeper, he really isn’t needed with the current options that the Hammers possess.

Even if Fabianksi were to leave this summer or next year, Areola has proven himself a more than capable understudy – if anything looking the superior of the two at times.

With West Ham United also needing to bolster their midfield ranks this summer and explore options in the final third of the field, it would be a waste to spend their transfer kitty in an already well-stocked area of the pitch.

Henderson is certainly the calibre of player that the Hammers want to explore signing this summer, to add to the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd in the first-team squad, but this one just doesn’t make sense.

European football will certainly help the club lure top targets to the London Stadium, adding yet more pressure on the upcoming final against Fiorentina on Wednesday (7 June).
