West Ham United to consider Danny Ings exit amid late Everton transfer twist

Everton are considering a move for West Ham United striker Danny Ings if they fail to secure Southampton striker Che Adams, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported in its print edition (27 August, pg 77) that the Toffees’ manager Sean Dyche is eager to add attacking depth to his Everton squad, but as the Saints aren’t keen on letting Adams go, his focus could shift to Ings.

The 31-year-old joined West Ham for £15million in January, but the Hammers will only let him depart if a replacement is acquired before deadline day.

Too little too late?

While Ings is far from a mainstay in the West Ham United squad, it may be unwise to let the Englishman depart on such short notice.

Everton meanwhile look set to complete a deal with Serie A side Udinese for 10-goal striker Beto, with Fabrizio Romano claiming (27 August) that the 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical on Merseyside.

If this deal is completed, which it looks set to, the Toffees may think twice about Ings despite Dyche’s reported eagerness to reunite with his ex-Burnley goalscorer.

West Ham themselves are not blessed with options up top. Following the departure of Gianluca Scamacca to Roma, the Hammers only have Ings and Michail Antonio as natural centre-forwards.

While the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta often chip in to get the goals for the Hammers, one injury to either Antonio or Ings would trigger an injury crisis.

West Ham should probably consider a move for another striker regardless of either Ings’ or Antonio’s futures. With domestic and European competition to navigate, at least one more centre-forward would be handy.

While Dyche may relish a reunion with Ings, West Ham fans will not relish a total lack of options up top this season. But with a few days left in the window, there could still be significant changes.

In other West Ham news, a Sky Sports pundit has raved about an “exceptional” new Hammers signing.
