West Ham United to beat Brighton to Carlos Soler transfer after developments
West Ham are expected to beat Brighton to the signing of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler, according to the Daily Mirror.
The newspaper reported in its print edition (20 August, page 46) that the Hammers have held positive talks with the Ligue 1 giants over a deal for the £17million midfielder.
It is understood that Real Sociedad are also interested in acquiring Soler’s signature this summer. Still, he prefers a move to the Premier League, with Julen Lopetegui’s side set to win the race.
West Ham United set to sign Carlos Soler?
Lopetegui and Tim Steidten have been in action for most of the summer transfer window, bringing several exciting talents to the London Stadium ahead of a new era.
Despite signing eight players, the Spaniard’s squad still looks to be lacking in the midfield area, especially with Edson Alvarez yet to return from injury, albeit close to being fit.
Guido Rodriguez experienced a mixed debut during the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday 17 August, and while Soler is not a defensive midfielder, there is no harm in adding another figure to that area.
The 27-year-old, who is also capable of playing at right-back, has impressed during his time with Valencia and PSG, proving himself to be a goalscoring threat from the middle of the park, also with a keen eye for a key pass.

He also has 14 international caps for Spain from 2021 to 2023, so Lopetegui will be keen to add such an experienced mind to his squad before the 30 August deadline slams shut.
Considering all of his appearances in Europe’s top-five leagues, it seems like a no-brainer to sign Soler if he’s available for just £17million, and beating a Premier League rival will just add the cherry on top of the deal.
