West Ham United target Luizao posts farewell message to Sao Paulo via Instagram

Luizao is inching closer to completing a January move to West Ham, and the Brazilian defender has seemingly wished goodbye to his current club via Instagram.

With Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd injured ad Craig Dawson’s West Ham future uncertain, David Moyes moved quickly this winter to secure more defensive reinforcements for his side.

To do so, he turned his attention to Brazil and Sao Paulo defender Luizao, who – according to the Evening Standard – is very close to joining the Hammers in January.

The 20-year-old added to the speculation on Wednesday by posting a message to Instagram that seems to be wishing farewell to Sao Paulo.

“If my cycle in São Paulo closes, gratitude is undoubtedly the word that stays, it’s been 6 years of a lot of learning and work, I arrived a dreamy boy and left the club as a man with goals and goals to be met,” posted Luizao.

“I know many will judge the form I leave but I make it clear that above all I maintain my respect and love for the club. Thank you São Paulo Football Club.”

Seal the deal

For Luizao to post a farewell message to his current club, it suggests that all the paperwork and negotiations for the deal have been completed.

The 20-year-old defender will be a superb addition to this Hammers side, bringing plenty of youth, energy and physicality to the West Ham defence.

West Ham

Moyes’ only concern will be that Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer and Luizao will all be settling into the club at the same time, but it’s a great chance for the trio to form a great relationship that can hopefully serve West Ham in the long term.

Sadly, Luizao’s arrival probably spells the end of Dawson’s time at the club. The 32-year-old centre-back almost left the club in the summer due to his desire to move back up north [The Athletic], but it seems Moyes convinced him to stick around a little while longer at the London Stadium.

It’ll be both exciting and nervous for West Ham fans to view a new-look defence in east London, but hopefully, Moyes’ new signings can help the club make the next step to becoming a team consistently challenging in European competition.
