West Ham United set to table £28.5m+ bid for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi – L’Equipe

West Ham are set to table an offer worth more than £28.5m for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, according to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi.

Writing on the official L’Equipe website (12 August), the French news outlet report that the Hammers have joined the race for the 20-year-old striker and are set to table their opening bid.

It’s expected to be more than €33m (£28.5m), after Frankfurt had a bid for that amount rejected by the Ligue 1 club earlier in the window. Chelsea have also had a bid rejected and are yet to return with another offer.

“After Frankfurt and Chelsea, West Ham has concretely positioned itself on the Frenchman Elye Wahi,” they wrote.

“The Hammers are expected to submit a first offer soon. What Frankfurt has already done around 33M€ (£28.5m), bonus included. Still too far from the wishes of the MHSC.

“The striker spoke directly this week with Chelsea leaders, but the Blues are slow to accelerate.”

Talent

David Moyes and West Ham have taken a shine to Ligue 1 in recent seasons with their signings, and Wahi could be the latest in a long line of additions.

Last season despite being such a young age, Wahi managed to score an impressive 19 league goals and that has grabbed the attention of several top clubs.

However after losing Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta this summer after he demanded a return to his homeland, we have a big gap in the forward line that Wahi could potentially fill.

Currently Danny Ings is the main man with Michail Antonio’s future also up in the air, while Maxwel Cornet and youngster Divin Mubama provide alternative options for Moyes.

But bringing in a young talent with such an impressive eye for goal could be the perfect solution for the club as they look to address a problem position in the market once again.
