West Ham United ‘serious’ about Wilfried Zaha deal as transfer negotiations continue

The likelihood of Wilfried Zaha returning to England this summer is increasing as West Ham United ramp up their negotiations with the forward, according to Fotomac.

The Turkish news outlet reported on Thursday [9 May] that former Crystal Palace hero Zaha could be set to make the move back to London from Galatasaray during the summer window, with West Ham believed to be in advanced talks with his representatives.

Zaha’s camp have arrived in London this week to look to strike a deal, as new boss Julen Lopetegui is believed to be an admirer of the 31-year-old.

The winger has hit double figures in goals in his debut season in Turkiye, claiming five assists, and may be intrigued by the start of a new, potentially lucrative project at the London Stadium.

Could Wilfried Zaha be back in the Premier League?

Zaha’s impact in the Premier League was long, eventful and entertaining.

A Crystal Palace legend, Zaha scored 90 goals in over 450 appearances in South London, either side of a brief spell at Manchester United which proved too much, too soon.

Whilst Zaha has performed well in the Turkish Super Lig, on the verge of a league champion’s medal, he was reportedly already interested in a return to London months ago, with Arsenal and Chelsea linked.

Mikel Arteta had even previously remarked in 2020 that Zaha is “phenomenal”, and has a “unique” ability to create chances on his own.

A seasoned Ivorian international, Zaha’s experiences on the continent this term have been his first living away from England as a professional, and he knows the league inside out.

Lopetegui’s admiration for the forward means the mooted move is very much on the cards, bolstering attacking options out wide as Jarrod Bowen continues to excel as a central striker.

In other West Ham news, Lopetegui is set to replace Michail Antonio as the striker prepares to depart.
