West Ham United ready another new defender transfer before 30 August

West Ham are still in the market for another new centre-back by the 30 August transfer deadline, according to West Ham Football.

The Irons outlet has reported on X (5 August) that for another defender to be added, someone likely has to be sold by Julen Lopetegui.

Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd are the two main names who could seal London Stadium exits before the end of the transfer window.

West Ham United ready yet another new transfer

As all fans will know, the defence was amongst the worst in the Premier League last season.

David Moyes’ side had the fourth-worst defence in the top flight with just the three relegated teams having worse defensive records.

This may come as a surprise to those who don’t watch the club week-in and week-out due to their ninth-placed finish last term.

However, there’s a reason why one of Lopetegui’s first additions to his ranks was that of Max Kilman.

And, whilst the club has been chasing Nice ace Jean Clair-Todibo for the vast majority of the window, it feels clear that the Frenchman has his heart set on a move to Serie A giants Juventus [La Gazzetta dello Sport, 8 July].

Nothing is yet set in stone and unless one of the club’s centre-backs exit this summer, it’s unlikely that any further bolstering will be done.

David Sullivan and Tim Steidten are not messing around this summer.

In other West Ham news, Niclas Fullkrug is set to sign his Hammers contract on Monday.
