West Ham United player ‘to hold exit talks next week’

West Ham United will attempt to overhaul a lot of their squad in the summer transfer window, and several senior players could leave.

Graham Potter inherited an imbalanced squad from Julen Lopetegui, and will aim to clear out a number of players who appear to have no future under him.

West Ham need to sell before they can buy this summer, meaning that anyone who is well down the pecking order in their positions could be allowed to leave.

One player could now be in line for a surprise move, less than a year after he moved to the London Stadium.

Guido Rodriguez wanted by River Plate

West Ham midfielder Guido Rodriguez has fallen down the pecking order, and he could be set to leave this summer.

It has now been reported by Argentinian outlet River Noticias (17 April) that Rodriguez could be heading to River Plate.

Manager Marcelo Gallardo wants to sign the West Ham midfielder before the Club World Cup this summer, but with Rodriguez valued at around £12.8million, a deal could be difficult.

River supposedly want to begin negotiations with West Ham next week, and a deal could be on the cards with Rodriguez falling out of favour at the London Stadium.

Rodriguez out of favour with Potter at West Ham

Rodriguez has played just one minute of Premier League football in the last eight games, and was an unused substitute for the rest of the time.

Lopetegui signed the former Real Betis midfielder for free in the summer, but he has failed to impress so far, and Potter clearly does not see the 31-year-old in his plans.

All signs point towards an exit this summer, and West Ham would do well to turn any sort of profit on the midfielder.

Rodriguez could return to his native Argentina, and would play alongside former West Ham hero Manuel Lanzini if he does move to River Plate this summer.

The midfielder has made 21 appearances for West Ham so far, and this seems unlikely to increase, despite the Hammers having little to play for in the rest of this season.
