West Ham United player exit now imminent as medical details emerge
Maxwel Cornet is to undergo a medical with Genoa in the next 24 hours ahead of completing a loan switch, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper reported via its print edition on Sunday [19 January, page 25] that Cornet, who has also been linked with Lens [L’Equipe], will arrive in Italy “tonight”.
Cornet will then undergo medical checks on Monday morning (20 January), it is claimed, ahead of putting pen to paper should all go well.
The 28-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with fellow Premier League side Southampton but struggled to make an impact.
Maxwel Cornet has no future at West Ham United
Cornet was supposed to use the loan move to Southampton as a chance to kickstart his career, but the opposite was true if anything as he could not get a look-in at the strugglers.
The Ivory Coast international made just two Premier League appearances for the Saints, only one of those being a start, and is now on his way to a third club of the campaign.
Given the fact he is under contract at the London Stadium for another two-and-a-half years, it may well be that West Ham can recoup some money for the attacker.

It goes without saying this is a transfer that has not paid off, but Cornet now has another chance to show what he is capable of.
West Ham fans will be eager to see at least one new forward come in this month, but the loan exit of Cornet will almost certainly be the next piece of confirmed business.
