West Ham United out-of-window signing hinted at by Julen Lopetegui

Julen Lopetegui has hinted at a potential out-of-window signing for West Ham after the defeat to Manchester City on Saturday 31 August.

The transfer window slammed shut on 30 August with the Hammers completing the signing of Carlos Soler on loan from PSG.

It now appears that business isn’t complete at the London Stadium after what Lopetegui told the West Ham website after the 3-1 defeat against Manchester City.

He said: “The window is closed and you can now only sign free players right now, and OK, we have to focus on the players who we have in the squad.”

There is no doubt that the Irons were very active in the summer window after David Moyes’ departure from East London was confirmed.

The new head coach combined with Tim Steidten to bring in ten new players to give the squad a fresh look for the new Premier League season.

The campaign has begun with one win and two losses with Lopetegui being somewhat reluctant to rush the signings into the side.

Despite this, the Irons could now move to bring in some free agents to help bolster his squad as the season moves forward.

It does feel like this could be too much to add to the side in one transfer window and expect them to gel quickly.

Given that Lopetegui already seems reluctant to trust in his fresh faces immediately, it would be bizarre to bring in more players, especially with the season now already well underway.
