West Ham United on red alert to sign Jack Clarke as Sunderland contract twist emerges

West Ham are on red alert to sign Jack Clarke after a contract twist has emerged at Sunderland, according to iNews.

The newspaper reported on its website on Friday (22 March) that the “star forward” will not sign a new deal as the Black Cats are refusing to break their wage structure.

It added that the Championship club may opt to listen to offers for the 23-year-old due to their player-trading model as he enters into the final two years of his deal at the Stadium of Light.

Could West Ham sign Sunderland forward Jack Clarke?

It’s no secret that West Ham are interested in Clarke after they’ve been linked with a move for him on numerous occasions throughout the past few months.

But they aren’t the only Premier League club showing an interest in him, while Lazio are believed to have had an offer worth up to £16.5million turned down for him in January.

There is a good chance the Hammers will look to firm up their interest in the winger once the summer window comes around when they should have more cash at their disposal.

West Ham
David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.

There is certainly a place in the squad for another wide player after Said Benrahma left in January and the likes of Maxwel Cornet have failed to impress at the London Stadium.

It will be interesting to see what kind of fee the Black Cats are looking for, though, as the Irons won’t want to fork out too much on a player who has yet to prove himself in top-flight football.
