West Ham United officials to watch ‘magical’ Roma star Mile Svilar amid transfer interest

Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar has attracted attention from West Ham and Wolves, with scouts expected to attend the Europa League clash v Brighton, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian news outlet reported on 14 March that the goalkeeper’s impressive performances both domestically and in Europe have caught the eye of admirers in the Premier League.

Svilar has been described as “magical” following two penalty saves in the Europa League against Feyenoord, and West Ham officials are set to track his progress in Brighton.

West Ham want to sign Mile Svilar from Roma

Starting every week and turning in impressive performances both domestically and in Europe for a club the size of Roma aged just 24 is no mean feat for any goalkeeper, and should be taken as a display of his quality and character.

Given the form of Alphonse Areola which has received high praise from many this season, particularly after the 3-1 win against Everton at Goodison Park, it is a surprise to see the Hammers tracking new goalkeeping options.

However, with Lukasz Fabianski now 38 years old, it would not come as a surprise to anybody should he begin to slow down and be phased out of contention, with Svilar 14 years his junior and with plenty of room to grow.

West Ham
Tim Steidten and David Moyes have not seen eye to eye at West Ham United.

The move may also signify the new direction the Hammers’ recruitment is looking to take under the guidance of Tim Steidten, tracking younger players with more room for development who could later be sold for a profit.

In other West Ham news, Gareth Southgate has made his call on Kalvin Phillips.
