West Ham United officials make transfer decision on Nayef Aguerd ahead of Premier League season end

West Ham officials are now ready to sell defender Nayef Aguerd at the end of the season, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reported on its website on Sunday (25 February) that the Hammers could cash in on the Moroccan international as they plan to spend big on a centre-back in the summer transfer window.

It added that Liverpool and Manchester City showed an interest in the 27-year-old last summer, but they are not expected to make a bid for him at the end of the campaign.

Could West Ham get decent money selling Nayef Aguerd?

It’s been an extremely disappointing second season for Aguerd with West Ham after he showed several moments of quality last year.

After recovering from an injury setback just weeks after making his move from Rennes in 2022, the centre-back played an integral role in helping the Hammers win the Europa Conference League.

But it’s been a completely different story in this campaign as he’s been involved in a number of shaky performances at the back and there are question marks over whether he should be in the starting lineup.

Nayef Aguerd has made just 39 Premier League appearances since arriving at West Ham in 2022.

The Moroccan would still bring in a decent transfer fee, but it would be surprising if we can get the £30million back we paid the French club for him 18 months ago.

It’s certainly no surprise that we’re looking to strengthen in central defence in the summer, though, as none of the current options have pulled up any trees this season.
