West Ham United offer pay rise to annoyed Vladimir Coufal as Premier League transfer mystery emerges

Vladimir Coufal was annoyed to not be offered improved terms when West Ham activated a one-year option in his contract in January, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reported on its website on Thursday (28 March) that the Hammers have now proposed a two-year extension that included a pay-rise, but they have been unable to reach an agreement with the Czech international’s representative.

It added that the 31-year-old received interest from an unnamed Premier League club in the January transfer window, with the right-back set to reassess his long-term future in the summer.

Vladimir Coufal deserves to be valued by West Ham

It’s no surprise that Coufal was frustrated to see his contract extended earlier this year without receiving any reward for his efforts over the past few seasons.

The Daily Mirror reported on 2 January that the right-back is only earning £35,000-a-week, which is significantly lower than the majority of his West Ham teammates.

While that is an incredible salary across most walks of life, it’s not much for a player who is starting for a Premier League side, who have been competing in Europe over the past few campaigns.

David Moyes has had a mixed season at West Ham

It’s good to see the Hammers have finally offered the Czech improved terms, but he perhaps feels he could be valued more elsewhere.

Although he isn’t getting any younger, he should still be able to do a job over the next couple of years, even if we do decide to strengthen at right-back and bring in a younger option.
