West Ham United now wait on signing of all documents for Summerville deal – Fabrizio Romano
West Ham United are now waiting on the signing of all the relevant documents in order to complete the deal for Crysencio Summerville, according to Fabrizio Romano.
In Romano’s daily briefing on Thursday morning [1 August], it was claimed a formal bid was lodged to Leeds United 10 days ago for the 22-year-old, with a transfer now set to take place for an initial fee of just over £25m, not including add-ons.
Romano described the West Ham as having done an “excellent job behind the scenes” during the off-season to work towards capturing the player.
A medical for Summerville is arranged for Thursday before being unveiled at the London Stadium [Fabrizio Romano, 31 July], as he returns to the Premier League as Tim Steidten’s fourth summer signing.
Brighton & Hove Albion were also interested in the Dutchman, but an agreement with Leeds never came to fruition.
West Ham proactive for Summerville deal
Summerville has perhaps been the most talked-about player in English football with regard to the sheer number of clubs interested in his services.
It had become pretty clear after Leeds’ play-off final heartache against Southampton that the playmaker was very unlikely to stay at Elland Road in the Championship, having registered 29 goal contributions in the league including 20 goals in 2023-24 as he lit up the division with ease.
Daniel Farke’s side were in no rush to sell and waited for their right price having already sold Archie Gray to Tottenham in a big-money deal, and a slim chance emerged that Summerville could have been in Farke’s squad for their opening weekend match against Portsmouth next week.

However, the Dutch youth international will very soon be claret and blue – even as soon as joining the squad’s USA tour [ExWHUemployee, 31 July] – and the move is testament to the proactivity shown by the Irons and Steidten to beat competitors to his signature.
Summerville is a player that can be nurtured and built around, and can add to the growing dynamism in Julen Lopetegui’s creative options.
