David Moyes and Tim Steidten could be on a collision course regarding transfer activity at West Ham amid ongoing uncertainty over the manager’s future.

West Ham’s poor Premier League form, culminating in Saturday’s (4 November) 3-2 loss at Brentford, has led to fresh doubts being raised over Moyes’ future at the London Stadium.

The Daily Mail reported on Monday (5 November) that a new deal for Moyes is now looking unlikely when his current terms expire at the end of the season.

Despite the speculation regarding Moyes’ future, West Ham continue to be linked with new players ahead of the January window, the most recent being Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski [Gazzetta Dello Sport].

According to Claret & Hugh [6 November], Moyes previously made his interest in the player known and the Hammers could now revive their interest in the new year.

But it is claimed that director of football Steidten holds a different view, as he would prefer to target younger players. With his 30th birthday on the horizon, that is not exactly a category Zielinski fits into.

It could lead to a stand-off of sorts as we approach the January window, with Moyes no doubt wanting his say in who the club should sign.

If a decision has already been made on Moyes, however, or indeed if the club simply do not know if he will stay on, then there is little chance of Steidten signing off on the Scotsman’s own targets.

West Ham’s stance on Moyes could therefore become a little clearer in the coming weeks, depending on how this particular transfer development transpires.

If the rumours from Italy are true and West Ham are indeed looking to sign Zielinski, then that has to be considered backing of sorts for Moyes. If the reports are shut down, though, then the opposite is true.

For now, Moyes simply has to turn results around using those available to him.
