West Ham United make late approach for Santiago Giminez transfer
West Ham United have made a late deadline day approach for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, according to Today Cudworth.
The 90min reporter shared via his personal Twitter account on Friday (1 September) that the Irons had made a late enquiry for the 22-year-old forward, but no future transfer business is likely in the closing hours of the transfer window.
David Moyes has been keen to add to his striking options throughout the summer, but with West Ham facing Luton Town on deadline day, a move for a new centre-forward doesn’t seem to be possible before the 11pm deadline.
One name that has been consistently linked with a move to the London Stadium is PSG forward Hugo Ekitike, but a move for the Frenchman seems increasingly unlikely with the French giants only wanting to sell the forward, rather than allowing him to leave on loan.
Fizzled out
This summer has been a real rollercoaster for West Ham fans, with an incredibly slow start, before plenty of incoming action in the middle of the window, only to end on a slightly sour note as the Hammers failed to find their striker.
Before Declan Rice departed the London Stadium, Moyes’ number one priority would have been to add to his forward line this summer with a lack of consistent goal-scoring options at his disposal for most of last season.
Rice’s departure shifted that focus to midfield and the Irons have strengthened immensely across all areas of the middle of the park, but that may have seen them leave their pursuit of a striker a bit too late.

The addition of Mohammed Kudus should make that a less pressing issue, with the Ghanaian a consistent source of goals himself. While Michail Antonio has particularly begun the season incredibly, his goals have meant that West Ham haven’t looked short of goals.
Whether or not he can carry on his incredible start to the season is yet to be seen and there is always a chance on deadline day that the Hammers manage to find a deal for a forward out of nowhere.
