West Ham United make Jonathan David request as Lille exit update emerges
West Ham United have requested to be kept informed about Jonathan David’s situation at Lille, according to Graeme Bailey.
The journalist reported via TBR Football on Wednesday (25 September) that the Canadian international has told the Ligue 1 club he will not be penning a new deal and will exit as a free agent at the end of the season.
David is looking to sign a pre-contract elsewhere, while Lille would ideally like to sell the 24-year-old during the January transfer window so they can secure a fee for the forward’s services.
The Hammers, Brighton, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United are all believed to be interested in signing the striker, with the Magpies checking to learn the potential numbers behind the deal.

It seemed as though the Hammers had finally solved the striker issue in their squad this summer with the signing of Niclas Fullkrug, but the German international has yet to really get up to speed with the Premier League.
Partner Fullkrug’s slow start with the fact that both Michail Antonio and Danny Ings’ futures in East London are unclear at this moment in time and it is only natural that West Ham are keen to make further additions to their striking ranks.
David’s goal record throughout his time in France has been exceptional. While he hasn’t ever played in the Premier League, it seems as though he would be able to adapt to the English game well if he were given the chance.
Signing the Canadian international in January may not be possible for the Irons. Lopetegui’s side doesn’t have loads of money to spend during the mid-season window having spent heavily in the summer [Sean Whetstone, 8 September].
However, they may be interested in securing the 24-year-old on a pre-contract agreement. The only question will be whether or not they can beat the host of other interested clubs to his signature.
