West Ham United make Fabricio Bruno decision after transfer twist

West Ham United have decided not to make Fabricio Bruno an improved contract offer after the defender rejected their initial proposal, according to the Mirror.

The report on 30 May reveals that the Hammers had reached an agreement with Flamengo over a transfer fee but the player was left dissatisfied with the lack of a notable wage rise in the personal terms offered to him.

As a result, talks have “broken down” – though it remains possible that the deal could be revived at a later date if West Ham return with an improved offer.

Are West Ham United missing out on Fabricio Bruno?

Bruno’s qualities were on full display when he made his Brazil debut in the 1-0 win over England at Wembley on 23 March.

However, the 28-year-old certainly represented something of a risk as a potential signing, having never played outside of Brazil despite entering his peak years.

The Hammers’ recruitment team clearly saw Bruno as an advantageous signing from a financial perspective, given their unwillingness to improve on their opening offer.

Assuming the deal is never revived, perhaps Hammers fans will view the deal’s collapse as a blessing in disguise.

For the Hammers to take the steps forward they wish to under head coach Julen Lopetegui, the club must be fully convinced of the ability of their new signings to raise the team’s standards.

There were always question marks over Bruno’s capacity to do that and if he is not viewed in that light at the London Stadium, it is perhaps for the best that he does not join.
