West Ham United made last-ditch transfer attempt for Jhon Duran before 11pm deadline

West Ham United made a last-ditch attempt for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran before the 11 pm deadline on 30 August, according to HITC.

The outlet reported on 31 August that alongside the Hammers, Chelsea also made a “final stab” at acquiring the Colombian.

The Irons were said to have made a loan offer which was knocked back by Aston Villa, who see the striker as a strong backup to Ollie Watkins.

Jhon Duran would have been a stellar transfer for West Ham United

One of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer window was that of Duran and West Ham. Since the window opened it felt like the Colombia international was destined for a move to the London Stadium.

In fact, the striker was even pictured making the ‘Hammers’ symbol on a video.

However, in the end, a deal never came to fruition and Lopetegui chose to turn his attention towards Niclas Fullkrug [The Rest Is Football Podcast, 16 August].

The German was signed for around £30million and looks set to lead the Hammers’ line for at least the foreseeable future.

Duran will no doubt be in the papers in January should the striker not get the game time he desires.

So, if the club can manage to raise the funds before then, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see the London-based club linked with a move for the attacker once again.

Carlos Soler was the Hammers’ last addition to their ranks and looks set to be a solid backup for star man Lucas Paqueta.
