West Ham United join Chelsea in January transfer race for Jhon Duran as Aston Villa stance shared

West Ham have made contact with Aston Villa over a move for Jhon Duran before the January transfer window closes, according to The Sun.

Alan Nixon reported for the publication’s online edition on Saturday [20 January] that Chelsea are also admirers of the Colombia international.

The report adds that Villa are unlikely to do business for Duran unless a big offer is tabled, but the striker would himself be open to a move away.

Exciting talent

Given the links with Victor Boniface, Armando Broja and now Duran to name just a few, West Ham are clearly seeking a striker this month.

That is the area that needs improving more than any other, and is the missing piece in ensuring the Irons have a world-class front three.

Duran was on United’s radar in the past, but Villa managed to get a deal over the line with Chicago Fire this time last year.

The Colombian has not exactly ripped the Premier League up, having scored just two goals in 26 appearances over the past 12 months.

However, not one of those outings has been a start, and word is that Duran is a hugely exciting talent who just needs to play more regularly.

If the price is right, this is a move that could make sense. However, if Villa want more than the £15million they paid last year, maybe not.

Either way, it is important that some fresh blood is recruited up top in the next fortnight.

In other West Ham news, a Sky Sports reporter claims United are now in specific talks with a club over signing one of their priority targets.
