Dharmesh Sheth: West Ham United now in specific talks about conditions of Kalvin Phillips transfer from Manchester City
West Ham are now discussing the conditions of a deal with Manchester City for midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports reporter shared the latest update with regards to Phillips’ future at the Etihad Stadium on his personal Twitter page [19 January].
West Ham are one of six clubs interested in signing Phillips, with talks now centring on what exactly City are after.
It has been reported elsewhere that City want a loan fee, the player’s wages paid in full and an obligation-to-buy clause as part of the agreement.
“West Ham United in discussions over a move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips,” Sheth said.
“Talks centre on the conditions of a potential loan deal. Sky Sports News reported yesterday West Ham were one of 6 clubs interested in the player.”
Promising development
The fact West Ham are still heavily involved in talks with City over a move for Phillips is a very encouraging development.
It is quite clear at this stage that United are eager to get the England international on their books – and why wouldn’t they be?
Despite his lack of action over the past 18 months, he has showed at Leeds United and with England that he is a hugely promising player.
United now appear to be in more advanced talks for Phillips, but that does not mean supporters should get too excited just yet.

City are clearly playing hardball with regards to an initial loan deal, with an upfront fee to be factored in on top of the player’s wages.
However, if a reasonable price can be agreed to sign the 28-year-old permanently next summer, it could still be good business for West Ham.
Phillips cost City around £45million [Sky Sports], so if United can knock that down to £35m with the loan fees added on, that would be a great signing.
It is now over to those high up at London Stadium to get this one over the line.
