West Ham United January transfer stance shared amid David Moyes ‘reservations’
West Ham are unlikely to be busy in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror journalist Alan Smith.
The Hammers were thrashed 5-0 by Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday (10 December) but Smith said manager David Moyes is likely to avoid the sack for now.
However, he also suggested that the Hammers are unlikely to do much business – if any – in the transfer window, even though there have been rumours Moyes wants another striker and a left-back, this despite Moyes’ “reservations” over a number of his squad players.

Writing for the Daily Mirror online (11 December), Smith revealed: “They are unlikely to be busy in the January transfer window, despite the need for a striker and Moyes having reservations around a number of fringe players.
“He has been reluctant to make too many changes during a hectic spell but admitted his hand will be forced by five games in 14 days to close out the year. West Ham face Freiburg in the Europa League on Thursday night looking for a win that would see them bypass the first knockout round.”
What?!
Oh for the love of…
Please, please, please do not let this be true.
Look, don’t get wrong, it is far from a dire situation at West Ham despite that Fulham humbling. Things are going reasonably well in the league, there’s a League Cup quarter-final on the horizon, and the Hammers will be in the Europa League knockout stages.

But it is so obvious that this squad needs some reinforcements. At left-back there is a quality void with Emerson Palmieri lacking substantial backup, particularly with veteran Aaron Cresswell way past his best.
Further forward is where the real issues lie, though. Michail Antonio is currently injured but also looks a player starting to look past his prime, and Danny Ings just has not cut it in a West Ham shirt.
It has meant Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus have been sharing striker duties but what West Ham need is a genuine number nine. The idea that they might not go for one might be Moyes’ ultimate undoing at the London Stadium.
In other West Ham news, one player is ready to quit the Hammers in January, though.
