West Ham United: January transfer stance on Jonathan Rowe shared as Everton twist emerges
West Ham may get a helping hand from Everton in their pursuit of Norwich City attacker Jonathan Rowe, according to talkSPORT.
The Irons have been linked with the England Under-21s international throughout the window, as have a number of Premier League rivals.
In an article written by Callum Vurley for the British broadcaster’s website [27 January], it was outlined how Everton could help out West Ham.
It is claimed that United can only bring in another new player if one is first moved on, and Everton are currently showing an interest in Said Benrahma.
Should Everton agree a fee for Benrahma, it is implied that West Ham could then move for Rowe.
Makes perfect sense
Seeing off Premier League competition for Rowe – recently hailed “outstanding” by Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe – would be quite the coup.
Rowe has 12 goals and two assists in 27 Championship appearances for Norwich this season, making the links with top-flight clubs unsurprising.
Given he is only 20 years of age, and Norwich are not desperate to sell, it may well be that a fairly sizable bid is required.
Even still, that should not put the Hammers off – they have had great success in signing players from second-tier sides, after all.
It is becoming increasingly clear, though, that a player will first have to be sold if another is to come in.
Benrahma is effectively surplus to requirements at London Stadium, and it would make perfect sense if he can be offloaded to Everton for a fee.
There is now less than a week of the transfer window to go, so the Irons need to get a move on if this development is to happen.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are reportedly already planning talks to sign an “amazing” player at the end of the season.
