Dharmesh Sheth shares West Ham United latest in January transfer pursuit of Sunderland ace Jack Clarke

Sunderland ace Jack Clarke remains “one to keep an eye on” as West Ham look to add to their squad before the January transfer window shuts, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The 23-year-old has proved too good for the Championship over the past couple of seasons and reportedly has numerous suitors in the Premier League.

David Moyes has made no secret of his desire to bring in fresh blood before the 1 February deadline, and Clarke could yet be brought to London Stadium.

Speaking to GiveMeSport [21 January], Sheth said: “It might be a case of West Ham United having areas that they want to strengthen regardless of injuries.

“I think the left-forward area may be an area that they could strengthen in this transfer window.

“They have been linked with a number of players and looking at the likes of Jack Clarke, at Sunderland. That is just one to keep an eye on in the final two weeks of the window.

“After the midweek defeat to Bristol City, David Moyes was actually saying that he thinks they will be able to bring someone in during the rest of the transfer window, so that is one to keep an eye on for West Ham.”

Good fit

The draw at bottom side Sheffield United on Sunday (21 January), plus the FA Cup exit at the hands of second-tier opposition in Bristol City, shows United could do with a signing or two.

A striker would surely be top of Moyes’ wishlist if given the choice, but a player like Clarke could also be a good fit at London Stadium.

United already have a few very talented wide forwards, but Jarrod Bowen has shifted into a more central position when available and Lucas Paqueta has been linked with a move away.

West Ham

It is looking increasingly likely that West Ham have a fair bit of money to play with this month, and a £20million move for Clarke would make sense on the face of it.

The Irons have had great success in recruiting players from Championship sides or recently-relegated Premier League clubs, so supporters should not turn their noses up at this link.

With less than two weeks of the transfer window left to run, let’s just hope some sort of deal is finalised soon to lift the mood.
