West Ham United in talks to sign Le Havre defender Arouna Sangante in Deadline Day transfer
West Ham United are in talks with Le Havre to sign defender Arouna Sangante in a last-gasp deal on deadline day, according to reports.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (1 February), SebEcrivainFoot, an LBCDS journalist, reports that the Hammers are in talks to get a deal done before the 11pm deadline in England.
David Moyes has been linked to several defenders during the transfer window this month and it seems as though Sangante could be on the move to bolster the ranks, with talks underway between the two clubs.
“Exclusive: West Ham is very active on the Arouna Sangante file,” he wrote.
“The Le Havre defender appeals to Hammers recruiters. Discussions are underway to complete a deal before midnight. To be continued.”
Shock
West Ham were expected to be quite quiet on deadline day when it came to incomings because of a lack of funds, but it’s possible that could change.
Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals are both said to be close to leaving with moves to Lyon and Real Betis on the cards, which should bring in some cash for the Hammers to play with.
Sangante is a 21-year-old defender playing in Ligue 1 which means he is unlikely to be too expensive, and this could be a move for Tim Steidten and Moyes as they plan for the future.
Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd have been linked with transfers away over the last few months while Angelo Ogbonna is ageing and out of contract at the end of the season.
This is forward thinking and a top young talent like Sangante would improve the options for the manager while also boosting the team as they look to achieve a strong finish in the Premier League and more European success.
