West Ham United hit red tape for new attacker transfer after agreed personal terms

West Ham United are wasting no time in kicking off their January transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo is desperate for reinforcements and has already made his plea for David Sullivan to spend money at the London Stadium.

West Ham are locked in the relegation zone after their 2-2 draw against Brighton, sitting four points behind Nottingham Forest.

Thankfully, West Ham have agreed a fee to sign Gil Vicente striker Pablo, but not everything is going as expected already for the Irons.

West Ham ready several quick January transfers

Nuno is under immense pressure of the sack, but the early signs in 2026 are that he will be backed with new January signings first.

Adama Traore is another signing wanted by the Portuguese manager.

West Ham are even said to have agreed personal terms with Traore, but have yet to iron out the final details over a fee with Fulham [teamTALK].

That is where things get tricky for Nuno.

Fulham currently have Calvin Bassey, Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi all away with Nigeria for the African Cup of Nations, with the final on 18 January.

The Sun has now reported that the red tape of those developments could prevent West Ham from signing Traore until after that, with Fulham reluctant.

Adama Traore by the numbers

Traore is known for his frightening speed and strength, rather than his consistent goals and assist output in the Premier League.

From Wolves to Fulham, not much has changed, but he can always be a difference maker on any given day, which could scare teams against a resurgent West Ham fighting relegation.

With the same number of yellow cards as goals in his 259 appearances, West Ham fans aren’t likely to be convinced by the possible signing of Traore.

The livewire just needs a trusting hand on his shoulder and has been left on the bench far too many times by the likes of Marco Silva at Fulham to make a real impact.

That would happen at West Ham, and the added responsibility of a relegation fight could spark back to life the old version of Traore, who terrified everyone.

With Wolves and Nottingham Forest coming up, points are needed, with or without Traore.
